Recorder Modes
The recorder status bar sits at the top of the recorder window and tells you what the recorder is doing right now. The status changes automatically as you interact with the recorder.
At any given moment the recorder is in one of several statuses — Live, Preview, Replay, Regenerate, or Loading. Each status determines what actions are available to you and how the recorder responds to input. For example, in Live you can interact with the page and record new steps, while in Preview you can review what was already captured, modify historic actions, or add ignored zones. Some statuses like Replay and Regenerate block all user input until their process completes.
The status bar displays the current status on the right side along with an icon, and shows a short description of what is happening on the left. Watching the status bar is the quickest way to understand why the recorder is or is not responding to your actions.
Status indicators
Section titled “Status indicators”Loading
Section titled “Loading”Shown while the recorder session is being set up. You will see a cloud download icon and the label Loading with the message Initializing recorder. No actions are available until initialization completes.
Live (focused)
Section titled “Live (focused)”
The main recording state. A pulsing red dot appears next to the Live label with the message Recording scenario steps. The browser is streamed in real time and every interaction you make is captured into the timeline.
In this state you can:
- Interact with the page - click, hover, type, scroll, navigate.
- Add verification steps such as Compare Screen Fragment, AI Assistant, or Screenshots.
- Add pauses and masked fields.
- Run Replay and Regenerate on the timeline.
- Delete timeline events.
While in Live the recorder can switch between several interaction modes. Each mode changes how the canvas responds to your mouse — instead of recording regular page interactions, the recorder temporarily expects a different kind of input such as drawing a selection area or clicking elements for inspection. The mode switches automatically when you activate a feature that requires it and returns to the default once you finish.
- Recorder (default) - clicks, hovers, typing, and scrolling are captured as timeline events. The sidebar shows the Session Timeline.
- Selection - activated when you start a Compare Screen Fragment, AI Assistant, or Movie Checker step. Draw a rectangle on the canvas to define the region of interest.
- Inspection - activated when you open Masked Fields. Click page elements to select them for masking.
- Ignored Zones - activated when you configure Ignored Zones. Draw rectangles on the canvas to mark areas that should be excluded from screen comparisons.
Live (unfocused)
Section titled “Live (unfocused)”
When your mouse leaves the recorder area, the red dot turns into a static gray dot. The label stays Live but the message changes to Recording in progress but recorder has no focus. Hover recorder area to resume.
The recording session is still active - hover back over the recorder area to return to the focused state. This indicator helps you notice when clicks might not be captured because the recorder does not have focus.
Replay
Section titled “Replay”
Displayed while the recorder replays the session after you trigger a replay. A forward icon appears next to the Replay label with the message Currently the recorder plays the session, before it finishes all user actions are blocked. All interactions are blocked until the replay completes.
Regenerate
Section titled “Regenerate”
Displayed while the recorder regenerates the timeline. A forward icon appears next to the Regenerate label with the message Recorder is regenerating the timeline. All actions are blocked until the process is finished. Like Replay, all interactions are blocked until the process is finished.
Preview
Section titled “Preview”
Shown when you click an event in the Session Timeline. An eye icon appears next to the Preview label and the message shows which step you are viewing: You are currently viewing step N.
In Preview you can:
- View the screenshot captured at the time of each event.
- Edit event settings - for example, toggle Ignore page structure on a single mouse click event.
- Set or adjust ignored zones on an event.
You cannot interact with the page or add new events while in Preview.
